Fun Days to Celebrate This Month with a Free Calendar for your Fridge

February 2020

By Angel Strauch February 1, 2020

February is the month of love, but to me it also seems to be the month that drags on FOREVER, even though it’s the shortest one all year. This year, we get to add-on one more day, too, since it’s Leap Year. But there are lots of things we can celebrate this month to make special memories with our family. Whether it be things to celebrate all month long or a special holiday just happening one day this month, we are here to help you make sure to have some special family fun. And you can print out this month’s calendar here:

This month you won't want to miss:

Celebrate these things all month long:

  • National Bake for Family Fun Month - You don’t need to give me a 2nd reason to have fun baking yummy treats with my family or for my family. Stop by one of our favorite Cookie Places for Family Classes or Give one of the Recipes a Try:
    • Cutest Cookies is offering many different classes for you to check out with your family.
    • Caramel Pretzel Cookies - These super easy caramel cookies would be a great pair with some hot chocolate during a cold night.
  • National Bird Feeding Month
  • National Library Lover’s Month
    • There is so many events our Library hosts for Free Check them out HERE
  • National Hot Breakfast Month
  • National Children’s Dental Health Month

February 1 - Eat Ice Cream for Breakfast Day

  • Why not surprise your kids with an ice cream buffet when they wake up. Set up an assortment of ice cream toppings and let everyone create their own sundae this morning. Toppings like M&Ms, oreo crumbs, strawberries, blueberries, chocolate chips, pound cake cubes, and mini marshmallows make good toppings, and don’t forget the whipped cream and cherries, too!

February 2 - “The Big Game” Day

February 4 - Thank a Mailman Day

  • Sometimes we take people for granted, so today is a good day to remember to thank someone who impacts your life almost daily, yet we don’t talk to very often - our mailman (or woman!) Why not get your kids involved and leave something special in your mailbox to thank your mail person today? Here are a couple ideas:
    • Make a Card
    • Bake them Cookies (See National Bake for recipe)

February 7 - Send a card to a Friend Day

  • Now that you’ve thanked your mailman, today you’re going to add some mail to that mailbox by sending a friend a card, or maybe you want to hand deliver the card. Whatever you decide, make sure you let your friend (or friends) know how much you appreciate them.

February 8 - Boy Scout Day

  • Boy Scouts learn and have fun doing projects and activities that prepare them for life. Looking for a troop near you? Visit their website and enter your zip code for the list: https://www.scouting.org/

February 9 - National Pizza Day

February 11 - Make a Friend Day

  • This may take more than a day, but I want you to really think about something you enjoy, but haven’t done in awhile. Maybe it’s reading, so consider joining a book club offered at many of the libraries in Staten Island. Perhaps you played sports growing up and missed it. Check out the many things YMCA or Local Sports Clubs offer. Whatever it is, I encourage you to make a plan to start doing it again. When you start doing something you enjoy, you’ll meet people who have the same interest and maybe you’ll make some new friends in the process, too.

February 13 - National Cheddar Day

  • The winter months are perfect for comfort foods. And there is nothing more comforting than a big pot of macaroni and cheese. Making it in the slow cooker is as easy as dumping a few ingredients in, turning it on and walking away.

February 14 - Valentine’s Day

  • We know you want to make Valentine’s Day special for your kids, but we also know how busy you are. Macaroni Kid to the rescue! We have a jam packed article of places to get Heart Shaped Pizza, Places that are offering specials and more coming in our NEXT newsletter make sure you are subscribing to get that you never know there may be some freebies in there for you <3

February 17 - Random Act of Kindness Day

  • In September, Macaroni Kid celebrates our own Act of Kindness Day, but this is something that can be celebrated year round, so the publisher in East Winnipeg  came up with the idea of 52 weeks of kindness, and you can find ideas to spread kindness throughout your community all year long HERE.
  • As a Random Act of Kindness I would love to give a lucky family a gift certificate to the Food Store Market Fresh. Market Fresh is a great small food store right in Rosebank.. Make sure you follow our social media and subscribe for that article coming this week.

February 19 - Lashes Day

  • This may sound like a silly day. I mean, really, a day to celebrate eye lashes? There really is a day for everything! But if you have a daughter, perhaps this would be a great day to have some special mommy & me time. You could do each other’s hair & makeup (maybe put the mascara on those lashes yourself so you don’t get jabbed in the eye though!), or perhaps this is a day just for you, Mom! Have you ever wanted to try eyelash tinting or get extensions? This is the day to do it! Go Look at Amna and her teams work HERE

February 22 - Walking the Dog Day

  • Walking your dog is not just important for your dog, it’s also good for you, too. It provides stress relief, exercise, and maybe even socialization if you run into a neighbor while you’re out. It’s also a good way to make sure you get fresh air, even in the winter. We tend to spend more time indoors when it’s cold outside, but walking your dog is a great benefit to you and your dog all year round.

February 23 - Tennis Day

  • You don’t have to be Serena Williams to enjoy tennis. There are many local parks and playgrounds that also have tennis courts, so grab your rackets, a couple of tennis balls, and your family can go play tennis.

February 26 - Tell a Fairy Tale Day

  • Once upon a time, a long, long time ago… Give your child that writing prompt and ask them to write their own fairy tale, or talk about it at the dinner table and have each person take turns making up a few lines of the story. Did you have a favorite fairy tale as a child? Visit your local library and see if they have it, or see if you can find one that no one has read before.

February 28 - Floral Design Day

  • There are so many local florists that you can look to for either a small arrangement or a larger arrangement. Sometimes a clean house and a few fresh cut flowers is all this momma needs to be happy.

February 29 - Leap Day
