Trip to the Turtleback Zoo

or What I did for Mother's Day

So my Mother's Day wish was granted.  I spent the day with my men and had a stress free time. And I watched my husband get licked by an Elk.  His first. It was quite fascinating.  We were just standing there, not paying attention to it, talking about how we have never seen an Elk up close, marveling at how calm it looked in the midst of all the Buffalo--who were shedding in unfortunate patterns which made them look like they had pieces of old, water logged rugs on ...

Saturday, May 15 - Adopt-a-Soldier Day

The zoo is celebrating Armed Forces Day by accepting donations for soldiers. Donations of toiletries, snacks, stationary, recreation/entertainment items and most important, letters of encouragement will be accepted. Please call the Zoo, or see the Zoo’s website, for a complete list of supplies for soldiers. Does your child (at least 14 years) need Community Service? If they do, please call to register your child to help pack the soldiers’ items.

Saturday, May 15 - Learn to Ride - Kids: Bike New York

Most Learn to Ride - Kids classes are held for three hours. Participants are welcome to arrive and leave at any point during the class.  The program works best for children ages 5 and up.

As long as a student brings an appropriate-size bike (see above), chances are good that he or she will learn how to ride over the course of one class session. Those who do not, though, are welcome to register for a second class or should use the technique taught at Learn to Ride to practice at home.

How: All cyclists must wear a helmet and have a bicycle that fits. The cyclist must be able to rest his or her feet entirely flat on the ground while sitting comfortably on the bicycle seat. Parents should pump up tires until they are rock hard and are encouraged to remove training wheels prior to the class, if possible.
Cost: Participation is Free but Pre-Registraion is a MUST.  There will be no day of walk ins allowed to participate.

Band members Vincent Cross, Mark Farrell, Allen Cohen and Bob Wright will present the "signature songs" of the first generation of Bluegrass performers, continue with the most popular songs from the "middle years" and end with two new songs, written by band members. Hear songs that were made famous by Bill Monroe, Flatt and Scruggs, Jim and Jesse, Jimmy Martin, Reno and Smiley, the Stanley Brothers and the Osborne Brothers, along with those that followed in their footsteps, like JD Crowe, Del McCoury, and the Country Gentlemen.
